Beginner Guide

What is Roleplay?

Learn the fundamentals before you step into the MORP DNR city.

Roleplay is a multiplayer mod play mode where you portray a character and commit to that role seriously. Your character's life gains experience and grows based on how you play them in the MORP DNR city.

In Character (IC)

IC is everything related to your character inside the game. If your character is named Michael, then IC covers everything about Michael: their backstory, personality, job, and behaviour.

Out Of Character (OOC)

OOC is everything about you as a real-world player — things that have nothing to do with Michael, your in-game character.

The golden rule of roleplay: never mix IC and OOC. What you know as a player is not automatically known by your character.

/me and /do Commands

Early roleplay on GTA San Andreas (SA:MP, MTA:SA) had no voice chat and far fewer emotes than GTA V today. To describe actions, players used /me and /do.

  • /me — describes an action your character performs. Example: /me takes a wallet from their pants pocket.
  • /do — describes a condition or outcome the game cannot show. Example: /do Does the wallet look empty?

Because GTA V now has many emotes and voice chat, use /me and /do sparingly so scenes feel smoother and more natural. Voice chat makes communication much easier to follow.

Tips for New Players

  1. Start with a simple backstory — name, age, origin, and job.
  2. Do not rush for money or weapons. Enjoy everyday interactions first.
  3. Listen to other players. Good roleplay is a shared story, not a solo stage.
  4. When unsure, ask on Discord. Senior players and admins are happy to help.
  5. Read the Server Rules fully before entering the city.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is roleplay in GTA V?

Roleplay is a play mode where you portray a character with their own personality, job, and life story inside the city. Every action is treated as if you truly are that person—not just a player at a keyboard.

What is the difference between IC and OOC?

IC (In Character) covers everything about your in-game character—name, backstory, and behaviour. OOC (Out Of Character) is everything about you as a real-world player. The two must never be mixed.

What are /me and /do for?

/me describes an action your character performs. /do describes a condition or situation the game cannot show on screen. Both help other players understand what is happening in the scene.
